Insurance Patients: Have You Met Your Deductible? What You Need to Know Before Your Acupuncture Visit

Let’s be real, insurance can be confusing. At Zenith Acupuncture & Wellness, we want to make sure you walk into every appointment feeling relaxed and informed, not worried about a surprise bill. One of the biggest questions patients have is:

“What happens if I haven’t met my deductible?” Here’s what that means, how it impacts your visit, and why it’s important to know before your appointment.

  • What Is a Deductible, Anyway?

Your deductible is the amount of money you have to pay out-of-pocket each year before your insurance company starts covering certain medical services.

Until that amount is met, you’re responsible for the full cost of covered services - including acupuncture - even if we bill your insurance.

Quick Example:Your deductible is $1,500. You’ve only paid $800 toward it so far this year. You come in for acupuncture, and insurance says “This is covered, but the deductible hasn’t been met.” Key here is: you owe the cost of the visit - to Zenith Acupuncture, not your insurance company.
  • Does Acupuncture Count Toward My Deductible?

Usually, yes — if your plan covers acupuncture, those visits will count toward your deductible. But every plan is different, so it’s up to you to check in with your insurance provider.

  • How Do I Know If I’ve Met My Deductible?

It is the patient's responsibility to know if they've met their deductible prior to recieving services. Here is how you can check your deductible:

  1. Log into your insurance portal via the website or through your phone's app. Most insurance companies have an online dashboard with deductible info, recent claims, and more. When using an insurer's phone app, you can easily click on the "Deductible" tab and it will show how much you have left.

  2. Call the number on the back of your insurance card. Ask these questions:

    • “Have I met my deductible?”

    • “Is acupuncture covered under my plan?”

    • “How much will I owe per visit if I haven’t met my deductible yet?”

  3. Write it down.Keep notes of who you spoke to and what they said - it helps avoid confusion later.

  • Who Do I Pay If I Haven’t Met My Deductible?

This is really important:

If your deductible hasn’t been met, you’ll owe the payment to us at Zenith Acupuncture & Wellness, not to your insurance company.

Even if the visit is "covered," the payment is your responsibility until your deductible is met.

Our Promise to You

We do our best to verify your insurance benefits and explain your coverage, but:

  • Insurance verification is a courtesy, not a guarantee.

  • Insurance companies sometimes change coverage or deny claims even after verification.

  • Ultimately, it’s your responsibility to know your benefits.

And we’re always happy to help guide you in the right direction so please don't hesitate to reach out!
