What is L.Ac., MS, AEMP?

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture helps to restore balance within the body systems and promote the body’s natural healing abilities. The insertion of acupuncture needles in various sequences and combinations opens the meridians, improving the flow of qi throughout the body. What has been difficult to interpret and understand in our vocabulary and western-based scientific knowledge, is the undeniable effectiveness of acupuncture at treating an issue when the needle insertion sight may be at a completely different area of the body as the issue. For example, a patient complains of a frozen shoulder, the acupuncturist needles the shin, and the patient’s shoulder joint opens up, the patient’s pain level slowly decreases, the muscles around their shoulder relax, their shoulder joint opens up, their range of motion increases, and their frozen shoulder improves. Not only are the acupuncture meridians and points mysterious yet incredibly effective, the wording of Chinese medicine is poetic and can come off as cryptic or koan-like, which creates confusion of how exactly this medicine works. Although we may not be able to put this all fully into words, modern research has shown that acupuncture has measurable effects on the nervous system, helping to regulate neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, which play a role in mood and stress management. It also stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, and has been shown to reduce inflammation, and improve circulation.

Do you take insurance?

Zenith Acupuncture & Wellness only accepts Kaiser and Regence Blue Shield insurance. With that being said, if your insurance plan has out of network coverage, we can provide a super bill which can be submitted to your insurance carrier for full or partial reimbursement. You may also pay with your HSA/HMA.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments you’ll need depends on the nature, severity, and duration of your condition, as well as your overall health. Acute issues may resolve in just a few sessions, while chronic or more complex conditions may require a series of treatments over several weeks or months. Acupuncture is accumulative and generally, we’ll notice a positive change within 4-6 treatments.  For an acute pain case you may need to come 2x per week for 2-4 weeks. For chronic pain, weekly treatments at first and then every 2-3 weeks to once per month for pain management. For the majority of other cases, I recommend starting with weekly sessions and then adjusting the frequency as your condition improves. For fertility patients, weekly treatments for 12-16 weeks is suggested. Every case is unique, and I’ll work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your goals and needs.

How will I feel after a treatment?

Many people feel a deep sense of relaxation and well-being following acupuncture. It’s common to experience improved sleep, better digestion, and an increase in energy levels. Occasionally, symptoms may temporarily intensify as your body begins to heal, but this is a normal part of the process and doesn’t last.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is generally very relaxing and rejuvenating. You might feel a quick pinch or slight sensation as the needle is inserted, but this often fades quickly. During treatment, you may notice a dull ache, warmth, or tingling around the needle site or along the meridians—all signs that your body is responding positively to the treatment. Many will drift off to sleep during their session. Acupuncture is safe and suitable for people of all ages, from children to the elderly.

What are the needles like?

Acupuncture needles are not hollow like intradermal injection needles. They are hair-thin, flexible, and solid. All needles I use are sterile, single-use, and disposable, ensuring complete safety and hygiene. Once inserted, most people barely notice the needles are there.
